Why do people commit the same mistakes again and again?

Why do People commit the same mistakes again and again?
I know someone who is hypertensive, and that someone keeps on committing the mistake of eating the foods that are forbidden for his health. Why? Is it because he is not knowledgeable of the foods that are forbidden? Perhaps, it is so. Is it because the lure of the forbidden food is so strong? Maybe so. But I think, the strongest reason why people commit the same mistake of eating the foods that are forbidden, is that few believe in the reality of the consequences, until the real consequence is felt and experienced, so that it is time for him to believe that the consequence is real, credible, painful, inconvenient, prevents one from doing and living a normal life, making that someone extremely frustrated and unhappy about the situation, or perhaps even angry at oneself, why he or she did not adhere to the better counsel of the wizard or doctor earlier in time. This thing happens everyday, and many think they are invincible. That they are exceptions, until the day that situations and events catch up with them. Prevention is always better than cure. There are generally known consequences of certain actions, like smoking, alcoholism, abuse of physical stamina, etc. There are always some exceptions, of course, but believing that you are among those exceptions, is risky and dangerous for your health. It’s just like charging against a wave of machine gun fire in front of you, without clear cover, and hoping that you don’t get hurt. Lessons learned? Be prudent and exercise the necessary precautions, whenever needed. Health is wealth. Man is the temple of God. The body has to be respected being the temple of God. Ones limitations should be recognized. Unnecessary risk taking is not always called for. We eat to live! Not to live in order to eat. Try to be rational in your thinking and behavior. Try to learn from the experiences of others. You do not have to fall from a high tree or building before you learn the consequences. Others have already done that, and I hope you do learn your lessons very well from their experiences.
